Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Primary School

Our School Mission, Aims & Values

Every child is unique and created in Love by God.

We want to inspire and nurture children to learn within a happy, accepting and inclusive school where all are treated with honesty and kindness, and strive to embrace the Gospel and its teaching.

We believe that all children should love to Learn

We aim to provide a stimulating learning environment and balanced curriculum so that the gifts of each child are recognised, and they each experience success every day.

We want children to bring our faith to life as they Grow up.

We want them to become the very best version of themselves, develop a strong sense of social justice and contribute to our society as responsible citizens.

Gospel Values

We are very proud of being a values-based education school.   Values-based education inspires children and young people to adopt positive human values.  The focus on values supports deepened relationships and gives our pupils the best chance of academic success.

Our values are:
Peace, Courage, Humility, Compassion, Integrity, Kindness, Forgiveness and Justice.

British Values

At Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Primary School, we actively promote British values through our school vision, ethos, agreed rules, curriculum and teaching.  As such, we promote tolerance of, and respect for, people of all faiths (or those with no faith), cultures and lifestyles.

We prepare children and young people positively for life in modern Britain by supporting them through our words, actions and influence, not just within school but also within the wider community.

Promoting Our Values

The government defines British values as:

  • Democracy
  • Rule of Law
  • Individual Liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths.

At Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Primary School, we value the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all pupils and families and undertake a variety of events and lessons to celebrate these.  We have found this approach to be enriching for all parties as it teaches tolerance and respect for the differences in our community and the wider world.  Underpinning all of this is a range of curiculum topics that have strong links to the British Empire.  We actively challenge children, staff and parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British values, including 'extremist' views.

Big Ideas

Our curriculum is thoughtfully linked to eight big ideas: community, resilience, technology, equality, human rights, stewardship, health, and wonder. These core themes serve to connect our Gospel values and British Values together and create a meaningful framework for pupils to develop a deep and lasting understanding of each essential concept. Through this approach, we aim to equip our students with the knowledge and values they need to become thoughtful, responsible and healthy citizens in the future.
